What to prepare for a renovation quote

Start with the room and the problem

Tell us which space needs work and what you want to improve. A kitchen may need more storage, a bathroom may have worn finishes, or a basement may need a more useful layout. Separate the changes you need from the features you would like if the scope allows.

For work across several rooms, list the spaces involved. Mention features you want to keep as well as those you want to replace.

Take a few useful photos

Include a wide view of the room and closer photos of the areas you want changed. Photograph visible damage or access limitations where it is safe to do so. Avoid including people, personal documents or valuables. Do not open walls or approach a hazard just to take a picture.

Photos help explain an enquiry; they do not replace an assessment of conditions that cannot be seen.

Share what you already know

Useful details include the property type, project location, approximate room measurements, preferred timing and any product selections or drawings you already have. If you have a budget range, share it along with your priorities. It helps the conversation focus on the work that matters most.

It is fine to be unsure. You do not need every selection made before sending an enquiry.

Ask what the quote includes

When discussing the proposed work, ask which items, materials and preparation are included, what still needs assessment and which decisions remain open. Discuss access to the property, how the work may affect your use of the space and how changes to the agreed scope would be handled.
